Chatter tools

These are chatter tools for endgrain decoration of spindle turnings.

I made the tool shafts from 1/2" steel tubing, then bored out brass rod and soldered it onto the shaft ends. I then drilled and tapped holes for set screws to secure the chatter bits, which I cut from .040" spring steel.

I turned the ferrules from brass plumbing fittings, then turned the handles from various woods and drilled them to accept the shafts.

I epoxied the ferrules and tool shafts into place, then finished the tools with linseed oil and wax.
