Tiny chisel |
In my inlay classes I need chisels that can clean out 1/8" grooves without damaging their walls. Hard to buy! So I made a series of .120"-wide chisels from O1 steel.
This one got a little extra treatment in the handle. I milled four padauk blanks, then assembled them around alternating sheets of black birch, maple, and black birch veneer (the triple stripes you see at top and front). Then I turned the handle, burned a couple lines into it, and finished it with linseed oil and wax.
I made the ferrule from copper pipe, then textured it with a ball mill in a Dremel tool before epoxying it onto the handle.
